70ish Degrees- Raining
Food- This is a favorite of mine so I am biased. The food here is excellent. Most of the selection is served in a tapas style. A tapa is a small plate with a small portion. My all time favorites are the mussels, pork belly, and the calamari. Though I have tried several other including some of the vegetable options and they were all great.
Drinks- The drinks here are also great. The bartenders are friendly but very professional. They can joke around with you but if you attend on a regular basis they will remember your usual drinks. They offer a good selection of liquors and a pretty extensive wine list. I myself am a liquor and beer kind of man, but I have tried a couple sangrias and they were good.
Vibe- The fun in visiting a restaurant of this style is with people. After all, life is about relationships. You can go as a couple or a group. This allows y'all to order a few different plates depending on the preferences of the people and share the food. Surprisingly you may not think you would get full from this but a bite here and there starts to add up. I have tried many new foods from coming here with friends and tasting things I normally wouldn't order. It also encourages conversation and doesn't kill the conversation during the eating portion of a meal. This place is usually slammed and sometimes they don't perfectly honor your reservation time(we have experienced getting set an hour past our reservation) but in a restaurant like this it is difficult to predict how long someone will occupy a table. The bar is so great and the food is so good we normally don't mind waiting and enjoying a few drinks while our table gets ready. If it gets extremely slammed they have a tendency to feed those waiting samplers and champagne as an apology of sorts.
Parking- Southend offers plenty of parking. The closer you are to the weekend and the later you wait into the night will result in increasingly challenged parking and you may have to park and walk a half of a mile or so. If you are going for date night, spend the extra money and Uber here to enjoy yourself safely!
Recommendation- Barcelona closes at 11PM through the week and midnight on the weekends(9PM on Sunday). This spot is great for a semi- large(10-12) party celebrating an event such a birthday. Just be sure to make reservations and maybe make them earlier than you actually want to meet. Get there a little early to check in and grab drinks as your party shows up. Though we go frequently with the boys to pregame this is also a great date spot. This is one of my personal favorite and most recommended date spots. Just avoid planning a date here if you strict time plans after like getting to a movie or relieving the babysitter. However, if you have a night to kill with a significant other this would be my first suggestion to you.
A special shoutout to the manager, Taelar Jones, who always takes great care of us!
Thank you Sam!
